We have survived our first week!

Mar 01

Whew! Our first week with Reid has come and gone; we are on to another week with our bundle of joy!! Many sleepless nights and lots of naps during the day has become our schedule. Payton and Shae are wondering if they have parents these days or zombies in place of us. I should say it's more me that is like a zombie cranky monster to them, but they are surviving and somewhat understanding that Mom and Dad are not getting a lot of sleep. Payton told me this morning (after my cranky spell with them tearing the house apart when I was feeding the baby) that "maybe you should have went to bed earlier Mom!"

Reid had his first follow up appt with his Pediatrician on Friday. When we left the hospital he was 9 pounds 9 ounces---at his appt he was down to 9 pounds 6 ounces so the doctor was a bit concerned that his weighed dipped down a bit instead of going up. She suggested we see a lactation specialist because we are having breast feeding issues and that we come back next week to have him weighed. We went to a lactation specialist later that day who was an incredible help to me. I have never gone in to see one with the other kids (I wish I did with Payton!)---to spare you all details, we are doing better with breast feeding as the weekend progresses. The lactation specialist wants us to take Reid in to a Physical Therapist (she called the Pediatrician who agrees) to teach us how to help Reid open his mouth more-----it sounds so strange to us to take a less than 2 week old baby to a PT to help him relax his jaw, but apparently they have a way to help babies who clamp down and have a tight jaw relax to be able to eat properly. Weird but worth a shot.

Here are some more pictures of how we are doing. Shae is finally holding Reid. He had to wait on his own terms to open up to the idea. He is struggling to establish "normalcy" since Reid came home. We are doing our best to help him along the way----I have no idea how it feels to be the middle child, but I can tell he already knows he is smack dab in the middle of the other two. I'm sure anyone who is a middle child can sympathize with him!

Well, I'm off to hang with Travis and wide eyed baby. This is the time we are all awake entertaining each other for hours on end!!

We love our new "soothing center!" Here is Reid all bundled up enjoying his comfy new pod. It has been a life saver! He actually slept a 4 hour stretch early this morning! WOW!!!
